Charlestown State Park in Indiana

Charlestown State Park is a 5,100-acre state park in Charlestown, IN. Located beside the Ohio River, the park opened in 1996 after the land was donated to the state. The area is rugged and hilly with large elevation changes. The Devil’s Backbone is a prominent rock formation in the park. 

Charlestown State Park has 14 miles of hiking trails rich with beautiful scenic views. The park is home to 70 species of birds including bald eagles that you can see while birdwatching! 

The Speed Art Museum

The Speed Art Museum is a museum for art lovers in Louisville founded by Hattie Bishop Speed. The museum was built in 1927 and renovated in 1996 and 2012. The stunning 2012 building renovation was designed by architect Kulapat Yantrasast. 

They have collections of African, Native American, American, European, and contemporary art. The Speed Art Museum has art from Claude Monet, Jean Dubuffet, John Chamberlain, and Rembrandt. Admission for adults is $20. Children three and under are free. The museum also hosts workshops and live music. 

Howard Steamboat Museum in Jeffersonville, IN

Howard Steamboat Museum is a steamboat museum in Jeffersonville, IN. It is the only museum that specializes in the history of steamboats in the United States. 

The museum is housed in the historic Howard Home. The Howard Family were arguably the most prolific steamboat builders in history. The house was constructed by Edmonds J. Howard from 1890 and 1894. The house has an identical stairway from the steamboat J. M. White.
